SQL Server 2025

Microsoft SQL Server 2025, generally available since November 2025, is the AI-ready enterprise database delivering built-in AI capabilities with semantic search, vector embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, Azure OpenAI integration, native JSON support up to 2 GB per row with JSON indexes, RegEx in T-SQL, change event streaming to Azure Event Hubs, native REST API support, plus Mirroring in Microsoft Fabric for zero-ETL analytics. SQL Server 2025 includes 40-plus new engine features.

SQL Server 2022

Microsoft SQL Server 2022 remains widely deployed as the previous LTSC release, including Azure SQL Managed Instance Link for bi-directional disaster recovery, Microsoft Purview integration, ledger blockchain tables for tamper-evident audit trails, parameter sensitive plan optimization, native S3 backup, plus Azure Synapse Link for HTAP analytics. SQL Server 2022 is the final version to include the Web edition, supported through January 2033 for cost-effective web hosting on-premises and through Azure Arc.
